Case Study — Landscaping & Gardening, Sydney

Good roots don't show. Neither do broken ones.

All Green Gardening & Landscaping has a licence, a decade of work, and reviews most Sydney trades would envy. Its website looks fine at a glance. Underneath, the pages telling Google what the business actually is are thin, inconsistent, and quietly costing it the searches that matter. This is my independent audit of allgreen-gardening-landscaping.com.au, based only on what's publicly checkable, prepared by Arif Rahman.

10 yrs trading in Sydney Lic. 353827C structural landscaping 5,000+ projects claimed 4.9★ reviews (count disputed, see §6)
WHAT CLIENTS SEE 4.9★ Google rating Licensed, 10 yrs trading 5,000+ projects claimed WHAT'S ACTUALLY UNDERNEATH Review count disagrees by page Suburb pages are copy-paste Facebook proof doesn't match scale Blog content isn't Sydney-specific
01 — Executive Summary

The trust is real. The site doesn't say so consistently.

All Green is a genuine, licensed, decade-old landscaping business with a real trust foundation: Structural Landscaping Licence No. 353827C, 5,000+ completed projects, and a strong Google review record. None of that is the problem. The site is built on WordPress with WPBakery Page Builder and credited in the footer to an agency (Nifty Marketing Australia), and it shows the classic marks of a templated local rollout: suburb pages that repeat the same sentences with the city name swapped, a review count that disagrees from page to page, a Facebook presence far smaller than the claimed project volume, and blog content generic enough to belong to any Australian landscaper.

No rankings, traffic or lead numbers are claimed anywhere in this document. Every recommendation below is written as what I would do, not what I've already measured.

What's genuinely strong

  • Real structural licence, not every competitor can legally do this work
  • Reviews name a real technician repeatedly, not generic
  • Existing FAQ content is already close to AI-search ready
02 — Website & Business Overview

What the site is built on, what the business actually sells

Technical snapshot

  • WordPress + WPBakery Page Builder
  • Long, hyphenated exact-match-style domain
  • Currently agency-managed (Nifty Marketing Australia, per footer)
  • Core Web Vitals and Search Console data not accessible for this desk audit

Business snapshot (site's own claims)

  • Servicing Sydney since 2015
  • Retaining walls, paving, turf, mulching, land clearing, garden maintenance, weeding, tree services, hedge trimming, landscape design
  • Positioned toward homeowners, property managers and strata coordinators

The genuine differentiator on paper is the licence, most mowing-and-maintenance competitors legally cannot touch retaining walls or drainage work. That differentiator is used as a trust badge, not as the spine of a content strategy, that's the single biggest opportunity in this audit.

03 — Findings

Surface signals vs. root problems

Root issue

Homepage claims "4.9 rating from 37+ reviews." The North Sydney page claims "4.9 from 52 reviews." A prospective client comparing two pages of the same site sees two different numbers.

Root issue

The North Sydney page differs from the homepage mainly in suburb name and one short paragraph about steep harbourside blocks. It fails a basic swap-the-city-name test, remove "North Sydney" and almost nothing else changes.

Root issue

The business's own Facebook Page shows 11 likes against a claimed 5,000+ completed projects, a gap that undercuts the number to anyone who checks.

Surface strength

The homepage FAQ block already reads as genuine buyer Q&A ("Do I need a landscaper or a landscaping contractor?"), close to AI-Overview-ready with only light tightening.

"Reliable, professional, and paid attention to detail."— paraphrased from a homeowner's Google review of the team
04 — Technical & Local SEO Audit

NAP consistency, GBP, and the three ranking factors

SourcePhoneAddress detailReviews shown
Homepage0410 196 069Sydney, NSW (general)4.9 from 37+
North Sydney pageNot restatedNorth Shore harbourside suburbs4.9 from 52

Google Business Profile

I could not access the GBP dashboard directly, so categories, posting cadence and Q&A activity aren't assessed here. What's checkable: a live, embedded Google review widget quotes the same technician by first name repeatedly, a genuinely good, human signal worth building into content deliberately.

Relevance, Distance, Prominence

Google's own three local ranking factors explain most of what needs fixing. Relevance is weakened by thin suburb pages. Distance is fixed per searcher. Prominence is where the review-count mismatch and thin social proof matter most, every public trust signal needs to agree with every other one.

05 — Keyword Strategy

From generic service terms to real local intent

Core serviceScenarioContextLocalized example
Retaining wallsloping backyardfixed quote, licensedretaining wall builder North Shore Sydney
Turf layingtired lawn, pre-salesame-week, insuredturf laying Sydney fixed price
Garden maintenancestrata propertyongoing, recurringstrata garden maintenance Sydney
Landscape designfull backyard makeoverdesign to build, one teambackyard landscape design and build Sydney

Voice of Customer is already sitting on the homepage FAQ, each answer deserves its own deep post rather than staying a two-line FAQ block. Won/Missed/Shared-Opportunity categorisation needs a manual SERP check against the priority terms above; I'm not presenting invented rank data here.

06 — Competitor Review

Two real Sydney competitors worth benchmarking against

SKS Landscaping (Sydney, trading since 2013) and Sydney Turf & Landscaping Specialists hold a similar residential-and-commercial position. Without a paid tool I can't pull their exact rankings or backlink profiles here, the realistic next step is a manual SERP-by-SERP comparison once the keyword set above is locked in.

Backlink gap directions

  • Turf and paving supplier directories the business likely already buys from
  • Sydney council resident gardening guides that sometimes credit trade contributors
  • Strata management directories, since strata coordinators are already a named client type
07 — Site Architecture & Internal Linking

What a real silo looks like instead of a flat page list

The homepage links out to every service and, from the footer, every blog post, a reasonable base. Missing: service pages linking back to relevant posts, and a Locations Hub cross-linking suburb pages to each other. Recommend Service + Location combo pages sitting below both silos, illustrative slugs following the site's existing URL pattern, not live links.

08 — Seasonal Content Calendar

Sydney's seasons already dictate demand, the content should follow

SeasonReal demand driverContent / GBP post angle
Spring (Sep–Nov)Garden refresh before summerTurf laying push, "ready for summer" guide
Summer (Dec–Feb)Lawn stress, pre-Christmas presentationDrought-tolerant planting, quick tidy-ups
Autumn (Mar–May)Clean-ups, green wasteLand clearing and rubbish removal push
Winter (Jun–Aug)Structural work, quieter seasonRetaining walls, drainage, licence-led content
09 — AEO & Trust

Getting cited by AI Overviews, not just ranked by Google

The FAQ block is close to AI-Overview-ready already: short, direct pairs. Tightening each to a self-contained 2–3 sentence answer, wrapping it in FAQPage schema, and stating the licence number and "since 2015" claim identically on every page (not restated differently per page) gives AI systems the consistent entity facts they appear to weigh across a whole domain, not one page.

What not to do

  • Don't copy-paste the North Sydney structure onto Padstow and Leppington with another find-and-replace
  • Don't add a fake local address for suburbs without a physical premises
  • Don't buy reviews or links to close the proof gap quickly
10 — 90-Day Roadmap

Growth in three passes, not one big rebuild

Days 1–30 · Roots

Fix the review-count inconsistency everywhere it appears. Run schema validation. Rewrite the North Sydney page's generic paragraphs. Start a weekly review-response habit.

Days 31–60 · Growth

Rebuild Retaining Walls and Garden Maintenance as the deepest service pages. Publish the first two seasonal, suburb-specific posts. Close the Facebook proof gap with real recent project photos.

Days 61–90 · Canopy

Build genuinely distinct North Shore and South-West Sydney location pages. Add FAQPage and LocalBusiness schema. Begin the manual competitor SERP comparison.

11 — Priority Matrix & Expected Outcomes

What to fix first, and what actually moves

FixPriorityDifficulty
Review count consistencyHighLow
Thin location page rewriteHighMedium
Retaining Walls page depthHighMedium
Schema implementationMediumLow
Seasonal content calendarMediumMedium
Local backlink outreachOngoingHigh

If implemented, I'd expect the earliest movement in micro-conversions, phone taps and quote-form starts, once each service page has real depth, and in direction requests and GBP calls once the NAP/review inconsistency is resolved. No traffic or ranking numbers are claimed, analytics access wasn't available for this audit.
